September Start Up Info:

The first day of school for the 2017/18 year is Tuesday, September 5, 2017.  

Teachers and their class lists for next year will be posted outside the school by 9:00am on the first day of school.  

The grade level lists will be posted close to the entrance/exit doors for the specific grade.  All staff will be outside at 9:00am to guide students to the correct classroom and welcome students back!

If your child(ren) will be taking the bus to school this year, please have them take the bus on the first day and meet them at the school.  This will allow them and the bus driver to meet and confirm the correct bus for the year.

Students are asked to wear the colour designated to their grade, as this will help to them to meet up with their peers:

SK = Red

Gr. 1 = Purple

Gr. 2= Yellow

Gr. 3 = Orange

Gr. 4 = Green

Gr. 5 = White

Gr. 6 = Blue

Junior kindergarten students will have visits scheduled on September 5th and 6th.  Parents of JK students received a letter in July indicating their child’s teacher, interview time, and staggered entry date.

Day 1 - September 5, 2017:  Orientation visits for all JK children registered in the Extended Day Program (EDP).  Children come to school with their parents for their scheduled visit and then go home with parents.  They return to school the next day to begin their school year.  All SK students attend class.

Day 2 - September 6, 2017:  JK students who have already had their orientation visit and are enrolled in EDP, return to school today and join in with the SK students.  Orientation visits continue with the rest of the families.  These children come to school with their parents for their scheduled visit and then go home with their parents.  They return the next day to begin their school year.

Day 3 - September 7, 2017:  ALL students, JK and SK are in class.

Transportation eligibility changes from kinder to grade 1.  Kinder's must meet the distance of 800 meters and grades 1-6 must meet the distance of 1.6 km.  Eligibility information is posted on the OSTA website under Policy T18.

Route information will be available to parents as of August 20, 2017 via the online Parent Web Portal.  Student Transportation Information can also be found using the “Stop Finder” located on the main page of the OSTA website ( which will link to the “Bus Planner - Parent Portal”.  Parents must enter the student’s last name, birthdate, school and grade in order to access route and stop information.

The “Stop Finder” feature returns bus stop and route information for eligible students who are assigned to regular yellow school bus or small school purpose vehicle service, or for eligible grade 7 and 8 students who are assigned to OC Transpo Service.

Transportation for students in a joint custody arrangement with two homes OSTA has developed a new policy & procedure to deliver transportation services to students in a joint custody arrangement and having two homes.  An application process and other requirements need to be met for parents to receive this service, and the homes or daycares in question must meet all other eligibility requirements.  The deadline for new applications or changes to existing applications for September start up transportation was June 1, 2017.  Renewals of current schedule calendars (no other changes) are due June 30, 2017.  All other applications will be reviewed after September 15, 2017, and prior to October 1, 2017.   More information can be found at

School bus routes are planned according to the number of registered students in the data system from May to July 2017.  OSTA continues to make changes in transportation throughout school start up.  Routes are driven as planned as of the first day of school September 2017 and drivers will stop at each stop, regardless of whether kindergarten students are beginning that day or whether they are beginning later on in the week.

Parents of children in junior or senior kindergarten are reminded they MUST make arrangements to have the SAME person meet their child at their stop every afternoon.  Parents may identify one alternate person only.  Failure to meet kindergarten children may result in termination of transportation services and/or that kindergarten child being dropped off at the nearest police station.

****OSTA has noticed that parents are submitting long lists of “alternate responsible people” to meet their children.  OSTA will only accept 2 names and the driver will only release the child to 1 of 2 people on file****

OSTA will be providing bright yellow plastic tags that should be attached to any KG student’s back pack (preferably on the lower left side).  These will assist the drivers in making sure a responsible person designated by the parent, or the parent, is at the stop to collect the student at their drop off point, per policy.


School Bus and Pedestrian Safety Awareness Day (First Rider Program) has been expanded and will run again on Sunday, September 24, 2017.  This important safety program is geared primarily for parents and children new to school bus transportation and/or who walk to school, although all elementary students are welcome to attend.  Families can register online!

Students who had been approved to access service under the Seat Availability provision for 2016/17 will need to reapply for service for 2017/18.  The “Application for Access to Empty Seats on School Bus Vehicles’ form is ONLY available on this OSTA website  and should be

sent to OSTA directly.  All applications will be reviewed and seats assigned after October 1, 2017.

For the safety of your child ….. we ask you DO NOT put students on the bus prior to assignment to a bus route.

School Supplies

While the school provides essential consumable items and instructional supplies for the students, many students prefer to have some of their own supplies. If you plan to make “back to school” purchases, you may wish to consider the following items:

Grade 1-6

2 glue sticks, scissors; box of Kleenex; pencil case; pencil crayons.

We ask that all students have a pair of indoor shoes that they can leave at school for the duration of the school year.

Activity Fee

Activity Fee for September Activity fees for our students will be $25.00.  These fees are used for such things as class trips, guest presenters, art workshops and special classroom activities. Any family that requires support to cover the fee can contact the school for assistance.  Activity fees can be paid using School Cash Online
